This mixed Polynesian half sleeve tattoo was prepared for Rod and it incorporates and extends a realistic tattoo that he has on his shoulder and pec.

The semi-realistic compass represents the trait d'union between the two parts, smoothing the passage from one to the other.
It is placed on the front of the shoulder as a reminder of the direction to be followed, and it's surrounded by a sun made of mountains for stability and joy, with ancestors in front of it.

There are several smaller patterns developing throughout the sleeve and some main elements: a great white shark, a great hammerhead shark, a manta, and a turtle.

The great white shark and the hammerhead shark represent two warriors, facing adversities with tenacity and strength, and they are joined by centipedes (fighting spirit), spearheads (the warrior/hunter), and the African symbol tabono (confidence).
More African symbols are included in a band-like part near the wrist, with elements for courage, strength, and tenacity, together with the stepping stones representing achievements.

The manta symbolizes freedom and it has waves and a Marquesan cross in it for harmony in water, with shark teeth for protection.
We placed the lokahi symbol next to the manta to underline the balance that must exist with nature and spirits, caring for the land and our roots.

The turtle represents family, with flax leaves for family union, fish hook for prosperity, and the all-seeing eye for protection from all evil.

The row of people that crosses the whole sleeve represents all the people met along the way; they are all different even if represented by the same symbol to show how, despite the different cultures, we are all the same in the end, and differences are only apparent.

The two tiki on top bring protection from all sides, and next to them (and to the ancestors) there are other African symbols representing abundance and experience.
Octopus tentacles symbolize tenacity and adaptability, and fish are for prosperity.
