Lakshmi ("she who leads to one's goal") is one of the principal goddesses in Hinduism, revered as the goddess of wealth, fortune, prosperity, beauty, fertility, sovereignty, and abundance.
She is depicted in Indian art as an elegantly dressed woman, often sitting upon a lotus throne while holding a lotus in two of her four hands, which represent the four aspects of human life: dharma (responsibilities), kama (pleasure), artha (purpose), and moksha (liberation).
The crown identifies her as a sovereign queen, symbolizing both material and spiritual prosperity.
We designed this minimalist image of Lakshmi not as a tattoo but as a logo for Barbara's practice, named in honor of the goddess whom she feels connected to, and we placed her within a circle recalling the enso symbol to represent enlightenment and the interconnectedness of all things, creativity, and the acceptance of imperfection.
