Melania used colours to feel the Whakakotahitanga drawing her own: red was used to recall the land, purple is for the sky at sunset and blue is for the sea.
The purple warrior represents her father, aged (hence the sky at sunset), who is not here anymore, protecting from heaven those left on earth (red guardian angel): Melania, her mother and her brother. The blue of the turtle represents their path through the sea that is life, protected by her dad.
